The sounds of a countdown and a gong marked the official opening of the U.S. / International Diamond Week. The Israel Diamond Exchangetrading hall was packed with exhibitors and guests that waited with baited breath to begin business. One after the other, honored guests ascended and welcomed attendees. The first to speak was IDE president Shmuel Schnitzer, who said, “I am happy to continue the project begun last year by Yair Sahar and kick off the American-Israeli Diamond Week. We are happy to host buyers from twenty nations and a respectable delegation from the United States.”
Diamond Dealers Club of New York Reuven Kaufman said, “I thank you for the invitation, as I said the last time, when Americans come to Israel, it’s like coming home. Congratulations on this project, which allows people in our industry to meet face to face and build relationships without a middle man.” Kaufman also thanked David Lasher for organizing the American delegation.
Israel Diamond Manufacturers Association President Avraham Taub said, “The loud commotion in the hall is a sign that people aren’t listening to the ceremony but instead doing business, and that’s a good thing. A success for you is a success for all of us.”
Israeli Diamond Institute Chairman Moti Ganz said, “I am happy to be part of the industry leadership that is building up a tradition which began a year ago, and which I hope will continue for many years. Good luck to all and Happy Passover.”
Roberto Coin, the guest of honor at the event, said, “You must be attentive and listen to the market at all times. It will allow you to make good business deals.”
